Shea Butter E-book

I have just completed an e-book on shea butter sponsored by my friends at Artful Teasing.

Shea butter is one of the most natural cosmetic raw materials available being as it is not cultivated, it is simply harvested from wild trees.  Although it is basically a vegetable fat it has  a lot more components than these typically have, and some of these components have some very interesting

properties indeed including a small but measurable sun protection factor, a natural anti-inflammatory and even indications of a counter irritant effect.  On top of this it is one of the few emollients that has been tested clinically.  All in all, a fascinating material.  If you would like to learn more you can download this e-book for free, but please let me know what you think and give me any suggestions you might have for future editions.

  1. Hi Colin – I’ve just come across your great blog, and thoroughly enjoying the read. The shea-butter-e-book link however isn’t working for me, and I would really like to read it. Could you possibly send me the file via e-mail?
    Thanks!
    Sarah

  2. I have fixed the link. Or rather the latest upgrade to WordPress fixed the link. I can’t claim to know what I am actually doing.

  3. Hi Colin

I am new to attempting to try to develop a therapeutic line of healing butters/oils.
At times, I am over-whelmed with the amount of research I need to do.
I am very happy to have run across your site. Interesting, informative reading.
Thank you (muchly) for your little Shea Butter Book.
It was informative and helpful in reassuring me I am on the right track using shea butter as one of my dominate ingredients.
Looking forward to more time on your site.

    With gratitude,
    Shon

  4. Very interesting, I didn’t realise they hydrogenate shea butter. I will have a play with it although I’m a bit concerned about the crystal formation, will an emulsifier prevent this or is there anything else that would stabilise it?
