Well the blog has been out of action for 9 days, so my apologies to everyone who tried to get onto it over that time. It still isn’t entirely back to normal. I get intermittent periods of extreme resource usage that might still bring the site down. I am diligently working through the setup to get to grips with what is wrong. Hopefully I can identify what is causing the issue and put it right.
It has been the most frustrating experience imaginable, because while the blog was down there was absolutely nothing I could do other than wait for my host to sort it out. In the meantime my standing with Google has been steadily declining. It looks like my traffic is down to about a third of what it was. I don’t know how long it will take to recover. I suspect Google’s algorithm takes a dim view of complete absence so I am not optimistic.
But if you are still reading, thanks for sticking with me.
Sorry to hear that. As a blogger, I can understand how frustrated you must be. I remember when I had no internet for two months because I was dealing with the French government and their crap telecom services. But don’t worry, you’ve got readers hanging around. Maybe you should start an email listserv to tell your readers when the site is down/up/doing backflips, etc?
Colin I’m sorry to hear you are having problems with your host. I’m convinced your stats will bounce right back to normal when the service is steady again. How frustrating to not be able to do anything but wait! I know you have loyal readers that are patiently waiting in the wings. 🙂
