The personal care and cosmetics industry is much smaller than the food industry, so it is worth keeping half an eye open on what goes on in food for what might be coming along.
The big story in food at the moment is that Danone who make Activia and Actimel are being challenged on the claims that they make on behalf of their product. The claims that are being scrutinised are the ones for ‘aids digestion’ and ‘promotes the immune system’. These are multibillion Euro brands and I am sure that Danone will be defending themselves with a lot of energy.
The interesting aspect from the point of view of both consumers and producers is what kind of scientific evidence will be judged as acceptable to justify what is being said. I will keep a close eye on this story and share anything that looks interesting.
