It is not cut and dried that breast cancer rates are increasing. for two reasons:

1) A report in the Wall Street Journal late last year stated that breast cancer rates had been shown to be falling in the USA

2) There is concern that the increased breast screening programmes are picking up tumours that would previously not have been detected and would have not evolved into invasive growth, but would have simply disappeared over time. This could be distorting the overall figures and would explain at least part of the reason for increases in incidence in some countries.</description>
