Creme de la Mer - Review

All in all – I have to say that Crème de la Mer might well be a very good product and might justify the high price charged for it. What I would really like to see would be a trial comparing it with Nivea Crème over a reasonably long period of time. It would be particularly interesting to see how much you need to use to get a benefit. If it lasts a long time because you don’t have to use so much of it, it might even be a cheaper option than some of the alternatives.

A Handsome Face

We all know a good looking male face when we see one. But what features go to make a male face attractive? I am indebted here to a rather amazing website BeautyCheck from the University of Regensburg in Germany.

Update on water intake

A report in the Independent in the UK today raises doubts about the benefits of drinking water. Well it is part of the scientific process to review your opinions in the light of new data, but this seems to be simply a review paper rather than any new research. I still [...]

Men who moisturise

I know that the people who read this blog are almost exclusively female, so it is a bit quixotic to write a post aimed at men, but nonetheless here goes. If you could forward it on to a bloke you know I would be grateful.
In the Observer today there is an article talking about [...]

What’s wrong with parabens - and a possible alternative

All cosmetic products that contain large amounts of water need to be preserved from micro-organisms. If they aren’t preserved the go mouldy. For years the most widely used preservatives have been the esters of para-amino benzoic acid. These are known collectively as parabens. The most useful is methylparaben. This [...]

Dove do it again

Another thought provoking video from Unilever to promote their Dove brand.

This one uses the classic advertising approach of playing to our insecurities, but there is a twist. The video opens with a young girl’s face and then proceeds to bombard the viewer with advertising images designed to show how the beauty industry’s activities are [...]
