While a quick fix for shedding pounds might be as tempting as those pies, it is not the best approach. Brown fat works by producing extra heat for the body which uses calorie fuel. If one does not need the extra heat, then energy is wasted. We wouldn't want to decrease the efficiency of the human body, would we? Progress comes from increasing efficiency, not decreasing it. We wouldn't want our cars to burn more fuel to do the same task would we? But that is exactly what adding unnecessary brown fat to our bodies does. It would also create the problem of people bieng too hot at room temperature.

On the contrary, some people like me may need more brown fat because we tend to be cold at normal temperatures, and we can't even get warm under covers. So brown fat therapy could help that. But my point is we need to get to the root of the problem and fix that, not add another problem to try to counteract the first.

Trying to push brown fat as a universal quick fix for weight loss will turn it into a fad, it will loose it's credibility, then it will die like a fad.

I saw a study a few years back that had been done with rats. The leaner rats had more brown fat cells, while the obese ones had fewer. Its interesting how our body knows when it needs more temperature raising fuel and when it doesn't. So both over-eating and size zero type dieting can put this built in thermostat out of whack, presumably.

As for fat cells being a substitute for affordable home heating; no I don't think so. Don't give the energy companies another excuse to raise the prices.
